Kairos Cookies: Once again the prison ministry team is headed for the Greensville Correctional Center. We need 200 dozen cookies by November 8th. Suggested recipes are available in the church office. Cookies may be left in the church freezer or you can call Len Pomeroy (703-425-8654) to pick up the cookies.
All Things New is a core strategy of the Virginia Conference. It’s primary objectives are to begin new faith communities and to renew those already in existence. It is a proclamation of faith in the abundance of God’s grace through Jesus Christ. We invite you to participate. Please take a look at the All Things New brochure at VAUMC.org. If you choose to participate, please fill out the tear-off portion of the brochure and bring to worship on June 12th.
We are in need of more volunteers willing to drive people to and/or from worship on Sundays – at all services. It is a way for some of our homebound to be a part of the worshiping community and to remain connected to St. Matthew’s. Please e-mail Linda (email@example.com) if available. Whether you are able to drive regularly or can only drive one-way, once-a-month – your gift of transportation is needed!
St. Matthew’s member, Jenny Moore, a second year student at Ithaca College, is asking for help housing 50 students from Ithaca who will be in the DC area April 15-18. They will be here for the Powershift 2011 Conference which will bring together 10,000 young leaders to work for our nation to move beyond dirty energy sources. If you can host any of these students please contact Linda Moore at (703) 573-2324.
Still giggling? Sure, the title is so adorable you can’t help but smile, but the true meaning behind Undie Sunday is anything but funny. Many of the homeless guests that we will be housing during our upcoming Hypothermia Relief Mission don’t always have access to new, clean undergarments and socks (something we often take for granted). But YOU can help change that!
On February 20th we will be having an Undie Sunday donation day. Please consider bringing new pacakges of adult socks (athletic, wool, etc.), briefs, and/or t-shirts for our homeless guests. Please remember that for this particular donation request, all items must be new - gently used items will not be accepted. These items will be collected in the Information Hall next to the Hypothermia Sign Up Sheets.
We welcome any questions or comments, please contact Linda.

Advent is a special time of year in the life of the church and we encourage you to celebrate with family and friends not just at St. Matthew’s but in the comfort of your home as well.
Is there someone you know who needs to hear words of joy? Make or select a card for that person and mail it today.
Come join the youth groups (both Sr. and Jr. High) on the evening of December 19th as they go to greet and spread holiday cheer to some of our homebound members. Whether you’re young or just young at heart we would love for you to add your voices to our group of carolers! We will meet at the church at 6:30 PM to depart and then please join us afterwards for snacks and drinks at 8:00 PM. Lyric sheets will be provided. Questions?
