A drive-thru prayer service is gaining traction in a suburb of Atlanta not just because of the convenience, but because of the connection it offers. Snellville United Methodist Church offers this outreach to anyone driving along busy Highway 78 at rush hour. Many of the people seeking prayer from the comfort of their cars are looking for hope outside of the traditional church setting.

All Things New: June 12th

All Things New is a core strategy of the Virginia Conference.  It’s primary objectives are to begin new faith communities and to renew those already in existence.  It is a proclamation of faith in the abundance of God’s grace through Jesus Christ.  We invite you to participate.  Please take a look at the All Things New brochure at VAUMC.org.  If you choose to participate, please fill out the tear-off portion of the brochure and bring to worship on June 12th.

What Is With* All About?

"With* is a United Methodist campaign to raise awareness, educate, and inspire people around Ministry with the Poor. With*… provides resources for learning, mobilizing, connecting, and engaging with ministries and people to eradicate poverty. We want: 1) to create a space for visitors to encourage, share with, and challenge one another as we transform how we view and talk about "the poor" and 2) to go out and transform communities.

The With* website is an interactive and connectional space to share news, stories, best-practices, and a range of historical, educational, and multimedia resources regarding poverty and Ministry with the Poor. We encourage contributions from our site users, so that we can learn from, encourage, and challenge one another as to what it means to be in genuine, transformative ministry with the poor.”

Help Needed: Driving Ministry

We are in need of more volunteers willing to drive people to and/or from worship on Sundays – at all services.  It is a way for some of our homebound to be a part of the worshiping community and to remain connected to St. Matthew’s.  Please e-mail Linda (lmonroe@stmatthewsumc.org) if available.  Whether you are able to drive regularly or can only drive one-way, once-a-month – your gift of transportation is needed!

Come Support Undie Sunday on February 20th!

Still giggling?  Sure, the title is so adorable you can’t help but smile, but the true meaning behind Undie Sunday is anything but funny.  Many of the homeless guests that we will be housing during our upcoming Hypothermia Relief Mission don’t always have access to new, clean undergarments and socks (something we often take for granted).  But YOU can help change that!

On February 20th we will be having an Undie Sunday donation day.  Please consider bringing new pacakges of adult socks (athletic, wool, etc.), briefs, and/or t-shirts for our homeless guests.  Please remember that for this particular donation request, all items must be new - gently used items will not be accepted.  These items will be collected in the Information Hall next to the Hypothermia Sign Up Sheets.

We welcome any questions or comments, please contact Linda.

“If you would have told me at the beginning of my time in college that I was going to be ordained in the Methodist Church, I would have laughed at you!” said the Rev. Harwell, 25, a deacon at Centenary United Methodist Church in Macon, Georgia.
